Discover the Top Bakery Trends for 2023

It’s been a tough start to 2023 which I’m sure has kept you busy. Here at Schulstad Bakery Solutions, we’ve scoured the top market bakery trends to find new opportunities for your business to profit from, whether it be flavours, ingredients or serving suggestions. Check out our favourite picks below.

1. Nostalgia

As shoppers continue to look for comfort flavours, there’s a lean toward nostalgic tastes such as rhubarb and custard, butterscotch and banoffee. The tastes of childhood have grown in popularity since the pandemic and are showing no sign of slowing down.

To seize this opportunity and maximise profit opportunities, operators should consider offering additional toppings to add to their Danish Pastry range.  Schulstad Bakery Solution’s Maple Pecan Plait can be upgraded by topping with whipped cream, adding a sprinkle of chocolate pieces and drizzling with caramel sauce. Best of all, most of these topping ingredients are commonly found in most operator kitchens, take minimal time to do but create an indulgent sweet impact, maximising that treat occasion.

2. Pastel Colours

Looking to the first half of the year, pastel colours are set to be a prominent feature within baked goods offeringsFrom a pale pink to light yellow, icing your Danish Pastries with soft colours is a simple change that will help boost sales by catching customers’ attentionWe have a handy video guide on how to make Instagrammable pastries, should you want some handy tips and tricks.

3. Seasonal Themes

Adding a theme is a great way to add an engaging point of difference to your range but is easier said than done. Using your bakery products as a base to get creative and customise is a great way to make your offering stand out and also create an added value LTO opportunity.

For example, with street parties planned up and down the country to celebrate the May Coronation, we’re in no doubt that strawberries and cream will play a big part in summer’s flavour trends.  Offering a twist on a classic, and suggesting a Pastry in place of a scone to consumers is a great way to keep on top of trending themes whilst promoting your Pastry offering.
